OUR CONTRIBUTION IN LEPROSY RESEARCH

The Leprosy Mission International-Bangladesh has a long history of field-based research and has gained national and international recognition for excellent research performance. TLMI-B’s research enhances our understanding of Mycobacterium leprae transmission patterns, identifies risk among different contact categories, and seeks effective chemoprophylaxis and immunoprophylaxis solutions. Several important studies, including IDEAL, MALTALEP, INDIGO, 2B, COCOA, COLEP and PEP++, have been conducted to improve early diagnosis and prevention of leprosy. Beginning with the Bangladesh Acute Nerve Damage Study (BANDS) in 1995, TLMI-Bangladesh have been involved in globally recognised and influential research with international research partners. Much of what we understand about leprosy and its complications today is as a result of research that TLMI-B has been involved in.  Studies like Tripod, TENLEP, PASQOL, ENLIST and Extra-Clofa have focused on preventing disability and managing complications.
