Striving for Zero Leprosy Transmission (SZLT)

The Striving for Zero Leprosy Transmission (SZLT) Project is dedicated to combating leprosy in four south-eastern districts of Bangladesh – Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Feni and Noakhali. By providing services at 37 UHCs (Upazilla Health Complex), the project works to reduce leprosy transmission and prevent leprosy-related disabilities.

The Striving for Zero Leprosy Transmission (SZLT) project aims to eliminate the transmission of leprosy by implementing targeted interventions, strengthening healthcare systems, as well as promoting early diagnosis and treatment. This initiative focuses on high-burden regions and employs innovative technologies, public health strategies, and community engagement to break the chain of transmission. Key components include enhancing surveillance systems, training healthcare workers, and fostering partnerships with local NGOs, governments, and other stakeholders.

The project is dedicated to reducing stigma associated with leprosy and ensuring that people affected by leprosy (PAL) receive the holistic support as needed. By achieving zero transmission, the project contributes to the global effort to eradicate leprosy and promote health equity, in line with sustainable development goals.
