The Leprosy Mission International Bangladesh

The Leprosy Mission (TLM) has a long history of working in Bangladesh, particularly in leprosy services, dating way back to 1926 when it first started supporting leprosy work in Chandraghona in the Chattogram hill tracks region. Later, The Leprosy Mission International-Bangladesh (TLMI-B) was registered as a Non-Government International Organization (I-NGO) in Bangladesh in 1991. TLMI-B is a key member of the Leprosy & TB Coordinating Committee (LTCC) in Bangladesh that supports the National Leprosy Program (NLP) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Bangladesh Government in the fight against leprosy and its consequences.

Since 1994 TLMI-B started supporting the National Leprosy Program by implementing project-based activities. The programs provide leprosy control services, prevention and disability management, specialized care at the DBLM hospital, community-based rehabilitation activities, advocacy and research on leprosy with the ultimate goal of supporting global and national leprosy strategies for defeating leprosy and transforming lives of the communities and their families affected by leprosy.

TLMI-B is a member of TLM Global Fellowship and to the dimension of leprosy, work is only next to India in Asia. In addition to TLM Global Fellowship, TLMI-B is a member of Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI), ILEP, NNN and the Micah Network. TLMI-B is also a member of the National Forum of Organizations Working with the Disabled (NFOWD).

TLMI-B is currently implementing 27 projects through 6 ongoing programs in 40 districts under 8 divisions with a dedicated and experienced team of 306 regular employees.
