Momen- Restored Health
Md. Momen, (pseudonym) a 14-year-old boy from northern Bangladesh, underwent a transformative health journey. Initially treated with homeopathy for Hypopigmented anesthetic skin patches, Momen’s persistent pain led to a diagnosis of MB leprosy case and commenced MDT at the Dhanjury Leprosy Centre, Dinajpur, in 2020. However, during treatment he experienced reaction and neuritis, resulting in the development of a claw hand and subsequent foot drop.
In pursuit of comprehensive care, Momen’s father sought assistance from the DBLM hospital. Under the expert care of medical professionals, Momen underwent complex ulcer management and reconstructive surgery, accompanied by daily physiotherapy to address his claw hand and foot drop. Empowered with knowledge and skills for self-care, Momen diligently continued his daily physiotherapy at home, awaiting further surgical intervention.
Despite setbacks, including a complicated Right foot Ulcer Momen’s resilience prevailed. Following successful healing, he underwent Foot drop surgery (RCS) in March 2023, followed by a comprehensive rehabilitation program. With the removal of plaster and sutures post-surgery, Momen underwent physiotherapy, culminating in his ability to walk normally. Equipped with special protective footwear featuring orthosis, Momen was discharged in June 2023, marking a significant milestone in his journey towards restored health and well-being. With his head held high and his heart full of gratitude, Momen embarked on the next chapter of his life, ready to seize every t and embrace the endless possibilities that lay ahead.
