Leprosy Control Project (LCP)

The RHP Leprosy Control Project is dedicated to eliminating leprosy transmission and preventing disabilities in Northwest Bangladesh’s high-incidence districts- Rangpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Nilphamari.

The project prioritizes early case detection, community engagement, and healthcare system strengthening to establish comprehensive leprosy control. Through innovative approaches such as extended contact survey, household contact survey, school-based information program, community outreach initiatives and strategic partnership with local health services, the project successfully detected 882 new cases in 2023. By integrating data- driven methods with community engagement and health system support, the RHP-LCP project is pioneering a new standard for an efficient, impactful leprosy control for zero transmission.

The LCP project is making significant strides towards a leprosy-free Northwest Bangladesh by fostering strategic community partnerships, providing comprehensive health system support, implementing integrated disability prevention and adopting sustainable intervention models.
